Soboba Pow Wow 2007

Opening up with some highlights from the Soboba Pow Wow 2007 in San Jacinto , California. Shot by Myself..

There are so many different ethnicities and cultures in California... But before there was a "small pueblo", there was a large and thriving Native American population here. People always forget that. The Tongva ("Gabrielinos") had a village that was later destroyed to build the pueblo; today's landmark "City Hall" building exists on that location. Peoples such as the Chumash, Serrano, Cahuilla, and others had an extensive network of trade relations through the LA area. Fast forward to today: did you know that Los Angeles has the largest urban Native American population in the entire United States??!! California also leads in the most Native Americans located in one state... But yet they have and still remain the Most "unrepresented" ethnic group in California... The Pow Wow Culture of So. California has thrived for many years ... good Native American people with the love of sharing their Culture with the public attend these events. With examples of their tribal affiliation, Much can be "expressed" through Tribal Art such as designs on basketry, to Modern Pow Wow Dance styles north & south, ...from Traditional Regalia designs from other tribes out of state, To more Traditional California Dances , with Traditional California Singing that is much different than the Drum that everyone is used to. Please enjoy these Videos... Albert C.
